What are the differences between coaching and counseling?
- Coaching is a unique, creative partnership between a coach and a client, where the focus is on implementing specific changes and learning through action and self-discovery to reach a meaningful goal.
- Coaching is more personal where the coach also shares his/her own experiences. A counseling session is only about the client and counselors rarely disclose personal information.
- While a counselor works with people who have difficulties due to past or recent trauma or maybe to a chemical imbalance, a coach works to move a client forward to reach his/her specific goal. During counseling, we explore the root of certain issues and find new ways to face those issues.
- The main focus of a coach is taking action. In short: a counselor deals with the past, a coach focuses on the present and the future.
